Homemade Salad Dressing
Here’s a fun fact: vitamins A, D, K, and E are fat soluble. Meaning, they are absorbed better when fat is present. This is one reason (other than taste) why we would put salad dressing on a salad. The vitamins and minerals from the fruits and vegetables will be broken down and absorbed when we pair them with a healthy fat.
The sad part is, most store bought ones are crap. Made with crap ingredients, loaded with sugars, and worst of all, the first ingredient is some sort of inflammatory oil like canola oil or soybean oil.
The good news, olive oil based dressings are anti-inflammatory, and you can make them at home! All you need is extra virgin olive oil, some kind of vinegar, water, and whatever spices you like.
**If you are at a restaurant, make sure you order a dressing that is olive oil/vinegar based, and get it on the side.
My personal favorite homemade salad dressing is:
1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon of water
Sprinkle of dried or fresh Italian seasonings/herbs
There are so many others out there too! Some have rice vinegar instead, lemon zest and poppy seeds, and so much more! Try to experiment with a few before you pick a favorite!
