FUNCTIONAL TESTING

Functional Bloodwork

This is regular ole bloodwork, but includes the full picture & read against optimal ranges instead of "normal" lab ranges.

Standard labs flag you only when you're in the sickest slice of the population. Who wants to wait until you get there?? Optimal ranges show where your body actually feels good. The gap between those two is where most women are quietly struggling with real answers nobody's giving them.

What it catches:

  • Fasting insulin: the early-warning marker for blood sugar problems, and one most doctors never order at all

  • A full thyroid panel: TSH is only the tip of it; Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies tell you what's actually happening at the cellular level

  • Inflammation markers (hs-CRP, homocysteine): the fuel behind stubborn weight, fatigue, and slow healing

  • Iron and ferritin, vitamin D: the deficiencies most commonly behind fatigue, hair loss, and mood symptoms in the moms I work with

  • Estrogen (estradiol): the hormone most associated with mood, metabolism, bone density, and libido - low estrogen drives brain fog, weight gain, and vaginal dryness; excess estrogen drives bloating, heavy periods, breast tenderness, and stubborn fat around the hips and thighs

  • Progesterone: the calming, protective hormone that balances estrogen - when it's low you get anxiety, poor sleep, PMS rage, irregular cycles, and the feeling of being wired but exhausted; chronically low progesterone is one of the most common and most missed findings in women

  • Testosterone (total and free): not just a male hormone, in women it drives libido, motivation, muscle building, and mental clarity; low testosterone looks like zero drive, difficulty building muscle, low confidence, and complete loss of desire

  • DHEA-S: the adrenal hormone that serves as the raw material for both estrogen and testosterone production - chronically low DHEA-S signals adrenal fatigue and shows up as burnout, poor stress resilience, low libido, and that bone-deep exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix

  • SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin): the protein that binds to your sex hormones and makes them unavailable for your body to actually use - high SHBG means your estrogen and testosterone are present on paper but locked up and inactive, which explains why some women have "normal" hormone levels and still feel every symptom of deficiency; high SHBG is commonly driven by chronic undereating, excess cardio, and elevated cortisol

You need this if: you've been told your labs are "fine" but you don't feel fine. You're exhausted no matter how much you sleep. Your weight won't move despite doing everything you’ve done in the past that worked. Something in your body feels off and nobody can point to why.

The DUTCH Test

A dried urine hormone test that maps your full hormone picture - sex hormones, cortisol, and how your body is actually processing & clearing them.

A blood draw gives you one snapshot in time of hormones that shift constantly through the day. The DUTCH shows you the pattern over a full cycle, plus something blood can't: your hormone metabolites - what your body is doing with the hormones you make, not just how much you're making.

What it catches:

  •  Your full cortisol curve across the day and night, not one morning number

  •  Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, including whether estrogen is clearing safely or recirculating

  • Whether testosterone is converting to DHT, the reason for hair thinning on your head and new growth on your chin, from the same hormone

  • The progesterone-cortisol relationship, which is usually the missing piece behind PMS, irritability, and disrupted sleep

You need this if: your cycle has changed and nobody can tell you why. Your mood swings feel bigger than they used to. Your sex drive disappeared. You're tired but wired at night. You've been told your hormones are "normal for your age." You are eating cleaner than ever and gaining weight.

GI Map

A comprehensive stool test that maps your gut ecosystem: bacteria, parasites, yeast, inflammation, and digestive function - far beyond a standard stool culture.

Your gut runs the estrobolome (the bacteria that clear estrogen), the majority of your immune system, and most of your nutrient absorption. If your gut is compromised, it doesn't matter how clean you're eating or how good your supplements are - very little of it is actually getting used.

What it catches:

  • Estrobolome balance: the specific bacteria that determine whether estrogen clears or recirculates

  •  Hidden infections: parasites, H. pylori, bacterial overgrowth, candida, that a basic stool culture won't pick up

  • Intestinal inflammation and gut lining integrity: the measurable reason behind chronic bloating

  • Absorption markers: whether your food and supplements are being used, or passing through

You need this if: you look pregnant by dinnertime. Supplements never seem to do anything. Your bathroom habits are unpredictable. You're reacting to foods that never used to bother you. Brain fog is your baseline.

HTMA Test (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)

A hair sample that maps your mineral levels and ratios over the past 90 days - not a single snapshot, but a trend line of what your body's been doing with the raw materials it has.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are especially high mineral-depleting events, whether you're eating enough to keep up or not. Blood tests check what's circulating right now, and your body works hard to keep those numbers looking normal even when your actual stores are running on empty. HTMA shows you the stores.

What it catches:

  • Mineral ratios, not just isolated numbers: your calcium/magnesium and sodium/potassium ratios flag adrenal and thyroid patterns, often before bloodwork does

  • Oxidation rate: whether your metabolism is running fast or slow — the piece behind feeling wired but exhausted

  • Heavy metal burden: lead, mercury, cadmium, which block mineral absorption and quietly tank energy, mood, and thyroid function

  • A 90-day trend, not a moment: this shows what your body has been building or depleting for months, not just today

You need this if: you're supplementing and nothing seems to change. You've been pregnant or breastfeeding back-to-back with no real recovery window. Your energy, hair, and mood all point the same direction and nobody can explain why. You want to know what's happening underneath at a cellular level, not just what's circulating today.
